How To Identify Engine Oil Leak That Is Hard To Find

A small oil leak in your engine is like a hidden enemy as it’s difficult to trace. It could goes unnoticed for a long period, if you are lazy or until serious damage happened to engine.

These two steps can help you identify the problem.

1. Check the engine oil dipstick. Wipe it clean beforehand for accurate reading. It’s best to check it early morning after an overnight.

2. Look under your car and check the engine oil pan. An engine pan covered with oil is sign of leakage.

Once you identify it, it’s time to find location of the leakage. How to do it?

It’s simple and easy. Drive your car to the nearest car wash shop and give it a wash.
IMPORTANT: Wash the under hood and bottom of your car.

It should be squeaky clean and dry without any oil mark on the engine pan. Remember to top up some engine oil and drive around as usual. On the following day, send it straight to your mechanic.

Why wash it the night before you send your car to mechanic?

For a visible sign of oil trail appears on your engine pan. Mechanic can easily identify the part that causes leakage. This simple action saves you time and money.
