Insanity And Genius

"The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success."-Bruce Feirstein-

“There is no great genius without some touch of madness.”-Seneca-

Best example for the two quotes above: Albert Einstein

Zodiac Killer vs. Jack The Ripper

Two Psychopathic Killers or Maybe Genius Killers. Who is the greatest serial killer in history?

Fast Facts
Jack The Ripper
1888
United Kingdom
Victims: Typically female prostitutes
Weapon: Knife

Zodiac Killer
1968-1972
United States
Victims: Male and female
Weapon: Knife and Gun

Both are psychopaths who enjoy playing cat and mouse games with the police. They maybe psychopaths but they are also smart. They left cryptic messages and letters to taunt the police. It’s like “Come and catch me if you can. Hahahaha!!!”

Till today, both of them were never caught and identity remains unknown. Jack The Ripper is better known commercially with many movies and books written on him/her. I use the word “her” because Jack The Ripper may be a woman. There is no evidence that shows The Ripper is a man. It is mainly assumption because the victims are female.

I am of the opinion that Zodiac Killer is the greatest serial killer in history. He committed his crime when forensic science is more advanced compared with 1888. Jack The Ripper may not escape from justice if the crimes are committed in 1968. DNA testing could send Jack The Ripper to his/her death.

Zodiac Killer case is still open till now but just like Jack The Ripper, the killer will never be caught. If police can’t catch Zodiac then, it’s virtually impossible after 42 years.

Below is one of Zodiac’s letters to taunt the police.

Protect Yourself Online

Online shopping and banking are growing every year. It brings a lot of convenience and time saving to consumers. We can pay our numerous bills at single mouse click and it’s done. Voila!

You can find stylish apparel from Korea (or other countries) and buy it without even leaving your bedroom. Just how convenience is that!

As usual, there are two sides of a coin. There are two version of a story for every situation. With good things, there are bad things.

Identity thief.

This is bad side comes with convenience of online shopping and banking.
Identity thief is a serious problem and your bank savings can disappear with a single mouse click.

To make matters even worse, you could end up with huge debt out of nowhere. The identity thief can purchase things with your stolen credit card. It will make your life a living hell when bank statement arrives at your doorstep.

How to protect yourself?

Always check the site has ‘s’ at the end of http. (Https = Secure, Http = Not Secure)

Always check the lock icon and the site is encrypted.

Always be alert of phishing websites and emails

Never enter any sensitive information on un-secure network connection and public places with Wi-Fi connectivity. Just don’t do it.

By practicing all the four pre-cautions above, your chance of becoming a victim is much lower.

Something About Me

Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.

-Dale Carnegie-

I studied marketing in my college days. It was not love at first sight but I soon learnt to love it as time goes.

Before I can blow off the 22 candles on my birthday cake, I was thrown out into the employment world. From here onwards, it is a roller coaster ride. It is like a young sexy woman gives me a smooch and his boyfriend punched me soon after.

Looking back, it has almost been 5 years where I breathe and live in employment world. The first lesson I learnt - studying is completely different from working. I was surprised and shocked with the truth of this working life but I managed adapt to it.

Marketing. The first chapter is defintion of Marketing. I know I had enroll into a troublesome study when I find out there is no one single definite definition of marketing. Every marketing guru, authors and body of marketing have their own set of definition. I keep my finger crossed that I can graduate from my study at that time.

But, there is one definition I like best. It is from Maxx Barry, author of the novel SYRUP.
It is hilarious, unpredictable and highly entertaining fiction with marketing as the background of the story. The following excerpt is from SYRUP.

mktg: a definition

Marketing (or mktg, which is what you write when you’re taking lecture notes at 200 words per minute) is the biggest industry in the world, and it’s invisible. It’s the planet’s largest religion, but the billions who worship it don’t know it. It’s vast, insidious and completely corrupt.

Marketing is like LA. It’s like a gorgeous, brainless model in LA. A gorgeous, brainless model on cocaine having sex drinking Perrier in LA. That’s the best way I know how to describe it.

He rocks, isn't it. I highly recommend this book for everyone and especially all the aspiring marketers out there. Go grab this SYRUP from your nearest bookstores to show your support for Maxx Barry. His official website is http://www.maxxbarry.com/

What Is Your 1st Collectibles?

I don’t know about yours but mine is a coin. It is an old coin. It depicts the face of Bapa Kemerdekaan Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The face value is MYR5 and minted on 1971.

I obtained it from my grandma together with a bunch of old coins. This coin stands out from the rest, as it’s the biggest and heaviest. It baffles me how Malaysian of 70’s era carried this coin for daily use. You can hurt people by throwing this coin at them. Yes, I’m serious.

Let us talk a little history here.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj is known as Bapa Kemerdekaan Malaysia when he successfully led a delegation to seek independence from British. Tun Sambathan and Tun Tan Cheng Lock were also part of the delegation. On 31st August 1957, Tunku famously declared “Merdeka” seven times in Stadium Merdeka.

He is first Prime Minister of Malaysia, a position he holds from 1957 until 1970. In 1990, Tunku Abdul Rahman passed away at the ripe old age of 90. The wake day was declared a public holiday as a mark of respect for Tunku’s contributions to his beloved country, Malaysia.

The writer writes this article based on vague memory of his history lesson. It’s definitely not 100% accurate and reliable. What else do you expect from a guy who failed his history subject.

Survival Becomes More Expensive

It’s still early of the year but it’s better to plan early rather than last minute rush.

Tax. Income tax. The dateline is 3 months from now. For 2010, the individual relief for “Self And Dependent” increases RM1000 to RM9000. Well, it’s better than RM8000.

The cost of living is getting expensive, no thanks to inflation. According to Bank Negara Malaysia, the inflation rate in Nov’10 is 2.0%. I’m not economist, statistician or banker but an ordinary layman.

From my understanding of math calculation, 2% means 2 cents increase for RM1 items, 4 cents increase for RM2 items and so on. But then, how come a bowl of laksa costs me 8% more than before?

Service tax is 6% effective from Jan 2011. 1% increment may seem small for one time transaction but when add up together, it’s definitely not small amount. You’re paying 10 cent extra for RM10 food each time!!! There is a good solution for this case. Well, we can go eat at places where service tax is not applicable.

But then again, isn’t hawker food prices keep on increasing like my bowl of laksa.

A bowl of laksa (Big serving) plus water = RM6.00
McDonald McValue Lunch = RM6.30 after service tax added

It’s just a matter of time before my laksa costs more than fillet-o-fish

On top of that, income tax is icing on the top. The more you make, the more of it going to government. The current system doesn’t leave much room to move around.

The question is, “How to keep more money inside your pocket?”

Talk to your employers to change part of your basic salary as travelling allowance. Below is an example,

Ms. A works for Company B as administrator and her basic salary is RM3,000. Thus, she has a taxable income of RM32,040 after EPF deduction.

If changes made to her paid status with RM2,800 as basic salary and RM200 as traveling allowance. Her taxable income will be RM29,640 after EPF deduction.

This means, pay less tax

Applicable to Assessment Year 2008 - 2010
If you receive travelling allowance, up to RM2,400 for your travels from home to office is tax-free. Further, travelling allowance of up to RM6,000 for official duties is tax-exempt.

Malaysian Are Smart People

I had a quick glance on my newspaper just now and saw the article below. The price of Ron95 increased by 5 sen per litre. I’m fine with the increase or subsidy rationalisation (as he prefers to said it this way)

PUTRAJAYA: The prices of Ron95 and diesel have increased by 5sen per litre while liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and sugar will go up by 5sen per kg and 20sen per kg respectively.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala said that the price hikes, effective midnight yesterday, were expected to result in a total savings of RM1.18bil.

There is a part of the article that made me laugh.

He said the price of Ron95, which would be raised to RM1.90 per litre from the current price of RM1.85, would still be lower compared to its retail price in Indonesia (RM2.46), Singapore (RM4.63) and Thailand (RM4.25).

Well, he calculates petrol price of our neighbour countries after conversion to ringgit. I don’t understand why he keeps on treating Malaysian as a bunch of fools. In fact, Ron95 in Singapore is cheaper than Malaysia as of now. Malaysian are smart people. Don't keep treat us like fools. Thank you.

RON95 in Malaysia = RM1.90
RON95 in Singapore = SGD 1.877

This snapshot shows the current petrol price in Singapore.

Yes 4G Disappointing Start

Yes, the bad rather than good things amaze us.

Yes, your website has downed since 19th till today. Yes, none of your competitors has ever done this. Yes, you’re the first to achieve this rare feat.

I measure Yes website with both Alexa and Google Insight. The result is shown here. I compare Yes website with the three big brothers, Maxis, Digi and Celcom.

Yes had more traffic than the others from 19th Nov onwards and is one of the fastest rising searches in Malaysia. It recorded +250% breakout as of 25th Nov 2010.

Yes failed to forecast the possible traffic coming to its site and hence, the bandwidth cap couldn’t managed such a huge volume and crash

Yes website is still not functional as of now. Yes, I see it clearly that you are offering 10GB for registration before 19th Dec but your website is still crash.

I shall wait to see how you are going to make me say yes to Yes 4G.

The Best Wake-Up Call

Everyone, you and me, are guilty in time wasting, abandon a relationship by not making contact with family and friends and spend money like there is no tomorrow.

Admit it. You did it.

We never really concerned about others except ourselves. We always put ourselves first before others. Yes, it’s true. Only a wake-up call can make us realize of the most precious things in life. There is no wake-up call more effective than facing death itself. It’s the best wake-up call.

What will you do if you know you are dying in 5 years time or possibly sooner? Live in fear? Give up? Or plan to have the best 5 years of your life?

What will you do? Think about it.

How To Identify Engine Oil Leak That Is Hard To Find

A small oil leak in your engine is like a hidden enemy as it’s difficult to trace. It could goes unnoticed for a long period, if you are lazy or until serious damage happened to engine.

These two steps can help you identify the problem.

1. Check the engine oil dipstick. Wipe it clean beforehand for accurate reading. It’s best to check it early morning after an overnight.

2. Look under your car and check the engine oil pan. An engine pan covered with oil is sign of leakage.

Once you identify it, it’s time to find location of the leakage. How to do it?

It’s simple and easy. Drive your car to the nearest car wash shop and give it a wash.
IMPORTANT: Wash the under hood and bottom of your car.

It should be squeaky clean and dry without any oil mark on the engine pan. Remember to top up some engine oil and drive around as usual. On the following day, send it straight to your mechanic.

Why wash it the night before you send your car to mechanic?

For a visible sign of oil trail appears on your engine pan. Mechanic can easily identify the part that causes leakage. This simple action saves you time and money.

that Barbie in the window?", he asks the shop assistant.

How To Write A Resume

Remember this important phrase.

Resume helps you to get an interview NOT a job

It’s the interview helps you get a job.

The question now is,

“How are you going to make the person who reads your resume giving you a call?”

It must attract the person to read more of your resume.

1. Layout is important. It helps when your resume layout is different from 100 resumes with the same layout. There are many jobseekers using same resume builder from specific jobsite.

Spend some time study different resume layouts that are available from Internet and customized it. When you customized it, your resume will stand out from the rest.

2. Wording of your resume. An attractive resume is easy to read. Employers will ignore those resumes that are difficult to read.

3. Contents. The most important content of your resume is your professional working experience. This is where you highlight your achievements to prospective employers. Write down the goods thins you did in your work instead of the job descriptions.

Example,
Cost savings activities
Sales achievement
Clearing the backlog
Any ideas or activities, which contributes to efficient and effective work
Meeting the deadline of your work
Teaching new staff

A word of advice: Be honest in stating your achievement.

4. Please remember this. Don’t forget to include your name and contact number. There is nothing more funny than an impressive resume without name and contact number. There are people made this mistake.

How To Make Yourself Poor in 3 Easy Steps (and in big trouble)

1. Buy everything you want anytime and anywhere. Clothes, shoes, gadgets and anything you fancy.

Timeline to trouble: Very fast. Approximately 1 hour. Spend all your salary in one hour and you’re in trouble for the rest 29 days.

2. When no cash in hand, use the always convenient credit card. Charge all your expenses into it and pay the minimum amount every month.

Timeline to trouble: Fast. Approximately 1 month. By paying minimum amount only, the magic of interest will bring nightmare to you soon. It will haunt you for many years to come.

A famous quote by Albert Einstein,
“Compound interest is the eight wonder of the world”

3. Take out a new loan to pay your current loan. It’s similar with a lie to cover another lie.

Timeline to trouble: Moderately fast. Approximately 2 months. Again, the interest will work its magic. Be prepared for non-stop calls and visits from your good old banks.

How long you going to be in trouble at this stage? Good luck, my friend. You need it.

Forgotten Dream

I am INFP personality person. I did my own research from Internet and found out that my profession doesn’t suit my personality. It said INFP type doesn’t belong to the 9 to 5 world due to clash of values and beliefs.

INFP loves job with a purpose of helping others. Flexibility in job without much restriction in rules is a dream come true for this type.

Truth to be told, I know for long that I don’t belong to my current profession. There had been many times I said to myself,
“Do I really like this work?”
“Do I like working in corporate world?”
“I can’t find happiness in my work”

Back to my student days, I always follow my heart to pursue my dream. It all started to change when I enroll to college. I studied a course chosen and forced by my family as they strongly opposed my chosen course. I obtained a good grade but was never happy…

Soon, I landed a job suited with my qualification. Looking back, it’s almost 5 years since I joined the working world and abandoned my dream.

I felt something is missing from my life. I am like a rat running inside a wheel but couldn’t get out of it. The consolation prize is I didn’t feel dead yet but I know it’s just a matter of time. Something's got to give way… a change is needed. It’s time to re-capture and re-connect with my true self.

Regret

Never ever let something or someone goes without taking any action. You'll live to regret this.

It happened to me. I'm ruing my inaction at that time. I should take action but I didn't....

Always grab opportunity with both hands. Always act and take the first step. Always do things you want.

There are things only come for once in our life. Once you missed it, it'll never come back...no matter what....

Regret.....

Reunion With Old Flame

Things are funny. There are places, which remind us of old flames. There are certain memories flashback connected with the place. However, there are memory that we can only remember when meet up with old flames again. It happens to me.

Yesterday, I go to a complex after work. It’s a sudden decision I made while on my way back home. The last time I went there was few years’ back.

I stroll around the complex while reminiscing my past. Then, I saw a familiar figure whom I haven't see for nine years. A figure who made me have butterflies in the stomach. I met her for the first time at this complex nine years ago. And here she is, my old flame, in front of me at the same place after nine years.

The first thought crossed my mind is, “She has changed. She used to be slightly plump but she is thinner now.”

The shine in her eyes is same like nine years ago. Those kind of look that “kills” me nine years ago and acts as a memory trigger. I remembered something.

I was involved in a road accident nine years before. I drive fast and hit divider while cornering. This accident brings serious injury to me. I had skull fracture and internal bleeding. I gone through a surgery and hospitalised for one week. I was in coma for two days after the surgery.

Whenever friends ask the cause of the accident, I always mention careless driving. I had somehow forget all about it…the real cause.
